Motus Edge at AVP Manhattan Beach Open
Over the weekend, Manhattan Beach played host to one of the premiere events in professional volleyball: the annual AVP Manhattan Beach Open. Known as the Super Bowl of beach volleyball, this event draws elite professionals from around the world (including several Olympic champions). Record crowds gathered to enjoy the free general admission and soak up the activity as players battled across nine beach courts right on the gorgeous Pacific coastline.
If you were there, you may have spotted our Motus Edge brand ambassadors handing out free samples of Motus Tape!
What is that colorful tape on the players?
If you've ever watched a pro volleyball match (live in person or on TV) you may have wondered why many of the players have colorful tape stretched across the shoulders, knees or lower backs. This is far from decoration or corporate branding... this is kinesiology tape. Used for pain reduction, joint support, reduction of inflammation and promotion of circulation and healing, kinesiology tape has been around for decades, but has only recently been accepted by a wider audience. Competing at an elite level, players look for any way to gain a competitive edge during active play, rehabbing an injury or running practice drills.
Motus Tape provides an excellent tool for these players as our 100% latex-free cotton / elastic fabric moves with them and our premium adhesive holds the tape firmly in place during rigorous activity. For those lucky enough to see us at the MB Open, you were treated to a free sample pack of 2, pre-cut Motus Edge strips along with an application guide to try us out on any nagging trigger point or ailing joint.
What injuries does Motus Tape target?
The applications are limitless, but in respect to pro volleyball players, Motus Tape is an effective tool to help address:
- Knee Pain
- Calf Strain
- Pulled Hamstring
- Shoulder Strain (rotator cuff injuries)
- Lower Back Pain
- Plantar Fasciitis
- and more!
How do I apply the tape?
Kinesiology tape is applied in a very specific manner, very different from standard athletic tape you may see in professional sports like NFL Football. You'll see rolls and rolls of white tape surrounding a specific joint to provide structure and protection during contact sports. Kinesiology tape works with very limited application required and it allows the body to move freely, while increasing blood flow. This is crucial to reducing inflammation and boosting the healing process during injury, but players enjoy the free movement of tape (especially in sports like professional volleyball).
We've provided a guide that shows various application methods to target the most common areas along with a video to help you out. However, we're always looking to educate our customers, so if you have a specific area or ailment in mind, feel free and contact us- we're happy to walk you through the process!
Until Next Time!
